A Heap of Anime Updates Dropped During the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays provide a multitude of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than scanning the latest news: discovering surprises, indulging in delicious food, and using meditation skills to avoid snapping at loved ones. Hopefully you managed to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items emerged during the holidays, and if you overlooked a few, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Will Continue (In 2027)

Without a doubt the most shocking revelation, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to halt the series' continuation. The show will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the main art for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now everyone is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been going on for years, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Immediately following the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has not been disclosed yet.
