Former UK Soldier Charged of Murdering Kenya Female Appears in Courtroom

A suspect has shown up before a judge as extradition hearings began in the case of Agnes Wanjiru, a Kenyan woman who was killed near a British forces camp in 2012.

Purkiss, 38, who is hailing from the Manchester area, was presented at the magistrates' court in Westminster on the last Friday, and stated to the court he intended to contest the deportation. Sources suggest that he was detained on Thursday evening.

A warrant for arrest for the suspect was issued by a Nairobi court in the month of September. The state attorneys informed the Kenyan judiciary that the individual had been facing a one count, of killing, and that the Kenyan government would request his deportation to face charges.

He was once employed as a medic with the regiment of the Duke of Lancaster, the army unit for the northwestern England, including on missions to Afghanistan.

The victim, 21 years old, a hairdresser who had a baby daughter, disappeared after a evening out, and her remains was located two months later in the area of the hotel where she had most recently observed.

No one had previously been arrested or indicted in association with her demise. His detention was the result of a fresh police investigation, which came after a report in the year 2021 by the Sunday Times, in which the publication approached several serving and ex-military personnel in the military group.

The investigation has been headed by investigators from Kenya, which, under a bilateral defence agreement, maintains prosecutorial power in the legal case.
