The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
